Isolation

About Isolation

Isolation is a game about space. You and the computer each control a knight that moves like a chess knight. After every move, the square you left is closed for the rest of the game, so the board shrinks turn by turn. You may never land on a closed square or on the other knight. The player who has no legal move on their turn loses.

The computer searches ahead and counts how many moves each side will have left, looking further ahead on harder levels.

How to play

  1. You are the white knight (♘); highlighted squares are your legal jumps.
  2. Tap a highlighted square to move. The square you leave becomes closed.
  3. The computer moves its knight (♞).
  4. If a player has no move on their turn, they lose.

Strategy and tips

  • Mobility is everything — prefer squares with many onward jumps.
  • Steal the computer's squares by landing where it wanted to go.
  • Avoid the edges early on; corners offer only two jumps.
