Plan ahead and outthink your opponent
Strategy games are where planning meets tactics. Each move changes what both players can do next, and the best players think about their opponent's options as much as their own.
A real computer opponent
Most of Game Oix's computer opponents use genuine game-tree search (minimax with alpha-beta pruning) rather than scripted moves; others, such as Hex, Dots and Boxes and Five in a Row, use evaluation functions built for that game (connection distance, chain counting, threat counting). On Easy they deliberately make occasional mistakes; on Expert they look several moves ahead.
Classics
Checkers, Connect Four, Reversi, Tic-Tac-Toe and Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe, Nine Men's Morris, Five in a Row and Dots and Boxes.
Sowing games
Mancala (Kalah rules) and Oware (abapa rules) — two of the oldest board games in the world.
Abstract strategy
Hex, Breakthrough, Lines of Action, Isolation, Fox and Hounds and Nim Strategy.
Hidden information and puzzles
Battleship against a computer that ranges from random shots on Easy to probability-based targeting on Expert, and Chess Puzzle Challenges — forty mate-in-one and mate-in-two puzzles, every one verified by a move-checking engine.
