About Lights Out
Lights Out is a classic switching puzzle. Pressing a light toggles it — and the lights directly above, below, left and right of it. The goal is to switch every light off.
Each board on Game Oix is created by pressing random lights on a dark board, so it can always be solved, and the game shows the target number of moves it used. Boards range from 3×3 on Easy to 7×7 on Expert, with ten levels in each.
How to play
- Tap a light to toggle it and its four orthogonal neighbours.
- Keep going until every light is off.
- Try to finish in the target number of moves or fewer.
- Clearing a board unlocks the next level, which starts with more lights scrambled.
Strategy and tips
- Order doesn't matter. Pressing A then B gives the same result as B then A, and pressing a light twice cancels out — so never press the same light twice.
- Chase the lights down. Work row by row: for each lit light in a row, press the light directly below it. Lights collect in the bottom row.
- Learn the bottom-row patterns. On a 5×5 board, specific bottom-row patterns tell you which top-row lights to press before chasing down again.
- Aim for the target. The target is the number of presses used to scramble the board; matching it means you found an efficient solution.
Questions about Lights Out
Is every board solvable?
Yes. Boards are created by pressing lights on a solved board, so reversing those presses always works.
